Dead Girls Are Easy (Nicki Styx, #1)Dead Girls Are Easy by Terri Garey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a great series that I stumbled across by accident, it reminded me of the Stephanie Plum series but with Ghosts and this made me laugh more and kept my interest longer. I love that the author seems to have named her characters in a method to relate them to some of Greek mythology like the reference to the Styx river that happens in this book, when all I could think about was Motley crue which actually isn't that far off either with Nicki's personality the rocker reference actually fits too. The main character is a riot, a kick in the pants, and someone who I wouldn't mind hanging out with and having a drink or two. The author did a great job of making her outrageous and giving her some shock value, but also didn't take it so far that it got on my nerves. I'm pretty sure I accidently read the last book first awhile ago not knowing it was part of a series, I also remember being utterly confused by the book because it talks about things I had no clue about. So def read these in order cause now that I've read the first one I have already started the second and I plan to reread the third just to see if having some knowledge will improve the book for me, I'm sure it will make all the difference.
So if you want a good easy book that will make you chuckle, and has a pretty steamy love story going on this is the book for you she's a fun character just trying to work out why she's seeing ghosts all the sudden.

Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book took my breath away, the emotion that was breathed into these pages was overwhelming. I found my heart racing and hurting for Juliette. I wanted to badly to reach into the pages and just grab her hand. The writing style is def unique but for me this book turned out more like Juliette wrote it so the way it was written and the slashes made so much sense. I've noticed that this has bothered some readers and I have to say how did you notice it became nonexistent to me when I got so utterly sucked into this horrifying world where everything is falling apart. The way this author wrote about Juliette and put a time frame on things like how long since she had spoke to someone or been outside it just made her more real to me to be able to put it into a context of years with no contact and more than years without human touch it broke my heart. How determined and strong she turns out to be was so realistic she was mortified inside but was still just trying to do the right thing no matter the consequences to herself. This is probably the best book I've read in a long time, I can only think of one other book that got this kind of emotional response out of me and that was the Host so it's been awhile. This was a fantastic first book, I can't wait to see what else this author has to offer.

Black Wings (Madeline Black, #1)Black Wings by Christina Henry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read a review on this book on amazon that made me really curious about the author and this series. The reviewer had stated that this was recommended to her as an example of bad fiction and poor writing. But the reviewer was actually pretty shocked by how much she enjoyed this book and couldn't figure out what her friend had meant. I totally agree this was one of the most interesting, twisting storylines I've read on the suggestion of a bad review. It kept me involved, interested and curious enough that I bought the next two books when I was finished.
The main character is Madelyn Black her job is to collect souls and pass them over into there after life. The powers and talents are passed down through the blood line, and hers isn't the only bloodlines that creates these reapers. She is a very strong, stubborn, lonley girl who has been raised by her mother's gargoyle. Madelyn has no idea about her father or just how specail her bloodlines really is.
I don't know if this was the author's first book it did have that feel to it though. Not that its a bad thing the second book is just a little better, it flows better and seems like she hit a grove with her world where it just seemed the author was hearing the voices of her character's a little better. This first book is very reasonably priced on amazon I really think if you like the paranormal you should check this series out.

Shades of Gray (Jude Magdalyn, #1)Shades of Gray by L.M. Pruitt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I found the prequel to this book for free on amazon and couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a taste of the series, and the authors writing style for free before investing my time and money into a new author and series. Now the free book L.M. Pruitt offers as a look into Jude's life before basically all hell breaks loose is definitely more than I bargained for, not only does it have a sassy kick ass leading lady, and interesting plot and story line, but I also liked the authors writing style. When I finished this book I went looking for more and found she has a second book out in this series all ready. :) This book has a great rhythm and the author doesn't drag out the unraveling of "mysterious" situations forever, this was refreshing it doesn't take long before your caught up and know the answers that certain situations have caused. It was nice to have things wrapped up instead of dragged on through book after book, it also helped me understand this world better that the author has created. One of the things I found to be so refreshing is the author doesn't pull any emotional or situation punches if the character had to live on the street and had no one to rely on but herself she didn't sugar coat the events or wax over the topic she gave us the gritty details and all the emotional turmoil we could handle. This helped make the main character be so much more believable, how she responds to people and situations was very much on par with her upbringing. This also showed me she was strong willed and stubborn instead of the author just telling me. Having to rely on only yourself makes it hard to trust others. If you haven't read this series I would recommend you at least grab the free prequel it takes you almost halfway through the first book so you get a lot of story for free it's worth a shot if you ask me.

Sunset (Pact Arcanum, #1)Sunset by Arshad Ahsanuddin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Arshad Ahsanuddin's daring debut novel, Sunset, is the first installment in a breathtaking new series about vampires, hunters, and humans. I missed that this was a homo-erotic story when I signed up, which is a new genre for me that I don't usually read, I'm actually glad I missed it cause I might not have signed up and this was an exceptional book.
I was impressed with the book's complexity and layers of unfolding information. I loved the author's use of such a bold, intelligent language. This book slowly reveals the structure of the different allegiances and governments. With such a big story and immense plot I think it was a good idea on the authors part to slowly sheds more light on the histories of the characters, and the multiple motivations of different characters. All of this did keep me very interested in what was happening in the over all book.

Sunset is a creative new take on vampires and their capabilities.

Dangerous (Element Preservers, #1)Dangerous by Alycia Linwood
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a good book, that starts off well and at a nice pace that isn't to slow. The story and plot really suck you in, the couple of grammar errors stuck out to me but they weren't too much of a deterrment.

I always believe if you find yourself having an emotional response to a story, be it good or bad then the author has accomplished what they set out to do. And boy did I have one, Ria is one of the few main characters that I HATE. So. Very. Much. For quite a number of reasons that changed over the course of reading. But as far as the major plot goes, it is very intriguing. It makes you think.

Still despite some of the rather unpleasant aspects, it's really quite an enjoyable story. With enough twists and turns and build ups to keep you hooked.

Deceived (Gwen Sparks, #2)Deceived by Stephanie Nelson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the Gwen Sparks series, boy do I hope she plans to write more and fast. This last book leaves some emotional issues unresolved and even though the big war is for the most part taken care of I find the Gwen's up in the air relationships bother me a lot. This book irritated the hell out of me with all the plot twists and back stabbing I wanted to scream at the book GWEN!!! Come on your a big bad powerful witch stop being a doormat and start kicking some ass. Sadly this lasts for awhile where her attitude just doesn't match her mouth or her inner turmoil it takes her a long time to stand on her own and kick some ass. Hopefully she has a big growth between this book and the next if she was consistently the kick ass Witch I know she wants to be. This was over all a great read and I'm excited for the next book.
